All About Fiesta

Fiesta in San Antonio started way back in 1891 as a parade to honor the brave heroes of the Alamo and the Battle of San Jacinto. We call this parade “The Battle of Flowers.” This historic parade is still celebrated today, but it has grown into a much larger and longer celebration of San Antonio’s culture. As years went on, more events began to be added throughout April – including a carnival, balls, and coronations of “royalty.”

Today, Fiesta takes place over 10 consecutive days and features over 100 events with music, food, sports, pageantry, military and patriotic observances, exhibits, and parades. Every activity is also sponsored by nonprofit organizations. Even though Fiesta holds long traditions, there are some new festivities often incorporated! San Antonians have seen regattas, synchronized swimming, polo matches, a hot-air balloon race, rifle competitions, and bowling tournaments as Fiesta festivities. Unfortunately, they didn’t make the list of traditions!

This year, we unveiled our very first Fiesta medal! We wanted to incorporate the older vintage Bar-B-Cutie many people know with the new San Antonio traditions. On our medal, you will find the original Cutie wearing a sombrero with a margarita in hand and surrounded by fiesta flowers. We can’t think of any better way to welcome the Cutie to Fiesta!

If you want to get your hands on these babies, visit Bar-B-Cutie Smokehouse in San Antonio. You can purchase them for $10 each, but there’s an even better deal to take advantage of. If you buy two, you get a FREE bottle of your favorite sauce! Mild, Sweet, Carolina, or Hot? The choice is all yours!
